Fast User Switching error: "Unable to obtain base addre

My server is Vine Server 3.11 on MacOS X 10.5.8. My monitor resolution is 1680x1050, if it’s relevant. My client is TightVNC 1.3.10 on Windows XP.

I start up Vine Server on port 5904. I contact it from my TightVNC client successfully. I disconnect. Next, I switch my Mac desktop to the login screen using Fast User Switching, and then attempt to contact the Mac again. TightVNC announces that the connection is established, and then disconnects. When I return to my Mac console, I discover that the server has terminated, and the following message in the VNC window:

“The server has stopped running. See Log (1)”

I visit the log, and find this:

“2009-12-02 13:34:59.199 OSXvnc-server[11463:2703] Unable to obtain base address

2009-12-02 13:35:04.205 OSXvnc-server[11463:2703] Unable to obtain base address – Giving up”

Anybody know what’s going on? A search on this forum, and in Google, for “Unable to obtain base address” gives me no hits. My Mac has a static IP address assigned, and my PC has a DHCP address, but the PC is addressable by name from, say, Remote Desktop Connection.

Thanks in advance -

When you FUS back to the login screen the screen buffer goes away.

Generally speaking it returns eventually but sometimes it requires that the server restart. Under Preferences->Startup make sure that you have the option “Restart server if it stops unexpectedly” checked.

Well, that’s cool as hell. Thanks!
