beep and play aren't working for me...

Are you running 10.6? These commands all work for me in both EP 4.2 and 10.x on OS X 10.5.8.

Still working under 10.6. You don’t have mute on do you?

HW issue… beep works on what’s set in System Preferences, and internal speakers aren’t showing up in System Preferences. Just another test case in the justification for a new MacBook Pro!

…and reboot fixed it.
