Yesterday the Vine server on my iMac was working fine and I was able to connect using a VNC viewer. Today I wasn’t able to access my computer with the VNC viewer, and gotomyvnc.com says my IP address is not responding on Display 0, etc to 9. I have not changed any configurations on the iMac. Anyone have suggestions? I use dynamic DNS on my router and DynDNS Updater.
Have you tried other ports. Possibly your ISP is blocking 5900-5909? Comcast has been publically accused by the government of port shaping and traffic blocking. Who knows, maybe your ISP doesn’t like VNC traffic? Also, ensure your firewall is open and forwarding is happenng on your router, and/or on your mac.

Don’t think my ISP is blocking the ports as it was working fine yesterday. Firewall open to ports 5900-5909 and port forwarding enabled to my internal IP address.
Assuming the VNC server is still running on your computer then the other thing would be that your INTERNAL address may have changed (if your router is doing DHCP) and now the router is forwarding to the wrong IP. Just a thought.

The IP address is the same…192.168.1.5…unchanged from yesterday. Interestingly, there are two IP addresses listed, the other being 172.16.239.1, of which I am unfamiliar. Is there anything in System Preferences I should be aware of? I have IPv4 configured using DHCP and IPv6 configured automatically. What about under Sharing? Currently,my firewall is off.

Well, that is going to be a problem to get to the host if you don’t have an Ethernet interface to the machine activated. Wired is in reference to the built in RJ-45 Ethernet interface usually on the back or side of the iMac. In the case of the Airport WiFi interface, that is built in and has its own antenna associated inside the machine (you can’t see it from the outside). Via the System Preferences, you can see what IP address is associated with which interface, System Preference -> Network -> …

Oops…sorry, thought you meant wireless…long day…Ethernet is activated, yes, wireless (airport), no.

The log clearly indicates that it’s a network problem at some level, the server is up and running fine but nothing has been able to reach it.
Can you post a screen shot of the port forwarding page of your router?
Also you might look at the DynamicDNS entry and make sure that truly has the latest IP of your home network. I know that my Linksys despite having DDNS support didn’t do a very good job of keeping that record up to date with DynDNS.

I’ll post the router port forwarding screen shot when I get home…I believe I have ports 5900-5901 forwarded to my internal IP. As far as DynDNS, I also have DynDNS Updater running. I wonder if it’s some other network configuration of my iMac perhaps?
Ok, sorry I can’t get a screenshot, but my port forwarding is as follows:
Service name: VNC
Start port:5900
End port: 5901
Server IP address: 192.168.1.6 (verified at DynDNS.com)
firewall and sharing settings are both off…are there any other network configurations (IP4 or IP6) or sharing settings I need to look at?

That IP address (192.168.X.X) is NOT the correct external IP address. That is a non-routable IP and is the INTERNAL IP of the router.
You can check your real external IP by visiting the site http://www.gotomyvnc.com/ and looking at the button. You can also click this button to have their site scan your VNC port range to see if it can see your VNC server.
Right, Jonathan, my external IP is 76.81.89.226. Server address for port forwarding must be a LAN IP address for my router, 192.168.1.6 (Netgear WPN824v2). Using DynDNS, I point my hostname to the external IP address above.
