Mountain Lion GM Compatibility

Early tests with Vine 4.0 beta show that it fails to connect to a socket because “(There is already a VNC Server running on this port)” - changing the port number has no effect.

Have you checked to make sure that there are no other VNC Servers running on that machine, and what ports they may be running on? It is possible that you could have multiple VNC Servers running on the machine using different ports.

Yes, I checked. Nothing except Apple Screen Sharing was running and nestat -an |grep [port] showed nothing listening on those ports. This is with the latest Vine Server and the GM of Mountain Lion released on Monday.

Apple Screen Sharing is itself a VNC server, so it may be using that port.

However, you may be running into an additional problem, which is in Mountain Lion. In order to fix this, you will need to modify a preference in Vine Server. In Vine Server, go to the Advanced tab in Preferences. For Command Line Arguments, put -ipv4, and then restart the server.

Hope this helps! Happy testing.

OK, that allowed me to start up the server. However, any attempts to connect result in repeated crashes. Diagnostic report and system log snippet below. Bottom line: it’s not Mountain Lion compatible.

We are working on our 10.8 compatible release and we hope to have it out soon. Thank you for your report.

Just so you know, our latest release v11.33 is Mac OS 10.8 compatible, and can be downloaded from the downloads page of our website:
